Dr. Karen Cooper: “Omigosh, how delightful Cleveland is! Cleveland is this wonderful, eclectic, secret place that really grows on you.
I started working out at the Bally's in Beachwood, Everyone was so friendly and family-oriented. We'd party together, celebrate together. I had never experienced that at the Bally's in D.C.
People in D.C. were much more aggressive in reaching their career aspirations. In Cleveland, people were very satisfied, whether they were going to stay at a particular level or reaching for another.
When residency was over, here I was trying to dive into a specialty that didn't exist yet: bariatric medicine. I thought, “OK, I'll stick around 'til I get the job of my dreams.”
